New layout

Picked a new layout and tried to pay a little attention to the blog and how it will evolve.

Feeling great. A few aches still left in my back and knee but they are slowly disappearing and they don't interfere with anything I'm doing.

Warrior diet is going well for the most part. I decided to have a roast beef sandwich in the afternoon before my workout. It was a mistake. So far just an apple or orange pre workout has been perfect. My weight has slowly increased the last few weeks to 190 lbs. from 188 lbs. I have two 16 oz. glasses of whole milk with a 1/4 cup of protein from trueprotein.com. I have one of them post workout with creatine or just late in the afternoon if I don't workout and the other before bed.

During the day my diet is usually:

8:00 - banana
10:00 - raw brocolli & carrots or kale
12:00 - handful of raw almonds and/or cashews
2:00 - more nuts
3:30 - apple or orange
4:00-6:00 workout on the days I train
After workout or around 5:00 to 6:00 I have the first protein shake and then I eat my meals. I usually have 3 rounds with big dinner, mayble a bowl of hemp cereal with hemp milk and blueberries, bowl of yogurt or whatever. I have pretty good sense of how much I need to maintain weight.
Before bed another protein shake with Alive liquid vitamins, glucosomine, probiotics, fish oil.

Transition

I decided it was time to take an easy week right now as I transition to a new routine. I'll most likely spend time in the next day or so doing tgu,s, practicing various lifts without going hard and greasing the groove on pushups and pullups if I feel like it.

I'm nursing a sore wrist and a sore knee right now so this should help me get healed up.

I'm going to start getting serious about adding protein to my diet. 4 cups of milk and a cup of iron mind just protein powder a day should do it for now.

The changes in my body definitely make me know I'm on the right track. Next week it will be time to bear down on my new routine.

Making progress and a new goal

I've been feeling noticeably stronger lately.

I had another session with Jordan yesterday afternoon and talked to him about what I can do next. His suggestion was either move on to the ROP or Max VO2. He mentioned the Tactical Strength Challenge which will be held in San Jose again in April of next year and said if I was interested in that I should start MaxVO2.

I'm pretty excited about this the more I think about it. I looked up numbers from past competitions and I think the numbers in the open category should easily be within range if I stay disciplined on a solid routine until then. I haven't tried snatching the 24 kg bell and that seems to be the big difference between the novice division and the open division.

I can't wait to see what happens.

Oops

Damn...I was going to delete my diet blog and accidently deleted my training blog.

Sigh...well it's ok as everything is in it's infancy still in most ways.

Anyway....I'm going to get serious again about the warrior diet. I'm going to have to make sure to feast at night to maintain my weight. That will take the most getting used to.

New training blog up. :)

Margaret is away

I drove Margaret to the airport tonight so she can fly to Arizona for more work training.

Got everything done I needed to today. Except I think I need to eat some more :).

Got the email that my kettlebell shipped.

New kettlebell ordered

Pistols felt good today. I can feel myself getting stronger all the time now.

Won an auction on eBay for a 53 lb Dragondoor kettlebell. Used my Paypal coupon for eBay purchases of 10% off to get it shipped for $121. Oh yeah.

Another day down

Taking it day by day, set by set, rep by rep is what it's going to take to get where I want to be. Today I got everything I wanted to do.

Wrist is getting better. Since my lat pull may take a while to go away I'll start pushups again this next week on my non-kettlebell days.

I have a real tight muscle in my lower back right next to my spine that I suspect is a victim of the deadlifting on Friday. It didn't stop me from doing anything today includings swings so I'll just pay attention to it. Foam roller work and an epsom salt bath tonight should get everything nice and relaxed.

Sick but working through it

Still fighting this cold but I haven't missed anything major at this point. My wrist is also feeling better every day now that I'm just letting it chill out.

PS3 has returned to me!

Good day except I'm getting a cold.

I got my PS3 back today from Sony. I think it was an exchanged unit...what is awesome is that I just put in my 16 gig thumbdrive where I backed up my PS3 before I sent it in and it restored everything to exactly the way it was. Even the hardware address of the wireless connection! Great stuff.

I told myself that there was no way I was going to play any games on it until I did my workout though. No distractions from the goals.

I'm done now so later will be some Tiger Woods 2008.

Good day

Great day today. Walked the dogs over at Stanford in the morning. Got my workout done in the afternoon. And Margaret made a killer meatloaf dinner for me. Everyone is happy!

My back is feeling better all the time but now I've got a tweak in my left wrist. The hypchondriac in me worries that something might have torn, but I'll just assume it was over use by the clapping pushups I did the other night. No use worrying at this point I'll just see how it goes for a while.

Time to get consistent

I finally had a chance to get some training yesterday. I had it scheduled to meet Jordan Vezina from Average to Elite over a month ago but tweaking my back put it off until now. It took much longer than I expected but I'm learning that I really need to be patient.

Right away when I started my swings Jordan said, "stop, I see how you hurt yourself." which was funny because I had been trying to convince myself that it wasn't my swing form that had done it. I was of course fooling myself and having someone experienced lay what I needed to do so my form was correct is just what I was looking for. I had been leaning back with my torso a bit at the top of the swing and once it was pointed out to me it was clear as day. Jordan was great to learn from. A nice guy to boot.

I have what I think is a pretty good idea of the routine that I would like to set up for myself. I'll start posting my new routine and what I'm getting out of it shortly.

My back is much better now aside from that healing kind of ache that I get occasionally but now my left wrist is sore. This is the wrist that I've had two surgeries on and I think it is complaining about the clap pushups I tried a week ago. I'm listening to my body though and I'll take it easy on my wrist as much as possible.

Time to wash the dogs before I get dressed and head to a wedding for some friends of Margaret and me.

Life is good!

It's been a few days since I last posted. I am still healing from my original back injury and the other day all of a sudden I had another (minor) pull in my back that kept my from my routine.

It's easy to fall into old habits or get depressed when things like that happen. I started to feel the pull of negativity and its call.

I'm not going to let that happen though. Obviously I've been doing something wrong and what I need to do is drop the ego, back off and build from scratch paying attention to the building blocks that I'll need down the road for solid improvements.

My shoulders are a bit sore from holding my kettlebell overhead and the hindu pushups yesterday but it's not super sore.

I should have a good idea at the end of this week or beginning of next week how the direction my diet and current workload is taking me.

I'm having a blast and looking forward to seeing progress. I just need to make sure to keep getting lots of sleep.

I'm feeling good. My back is almost healed and I'll be able to schedule time with the strength trainer I've picked out locally, Jordan Vezina at Average to Elite.

I've had to be very patient as it's taken about 3 weeks longer than I thought it was going to take to get to the point I can resume hard workouts. I'm feeling strong right now and it's only going to get better from here on out.

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Well I created separate blogs (viewable through my profile on the right) for my diet and training stuff so this blog is going to be...well I'm not sure but I'll try to keep it (semi) interesting.
